Kaliko Veiseh

Kaliko always knew she wanted to work in finance, and Soundmark turned out to be the perfect home for her.

Rather than waste energy on factors outside of her control, Kaliko strives to focus on the things in life she can do something about. Turns out, that guiding principle aligns perfectly with Soundmark’s philosophy that financial planning and investing doesn’t have to be complicated—that focusing less on Wall Street and more on what matters to each individual client will ultimately allow them to achieve their financial goals.

Building lasting relationships with her clients so that she can help them achieve those goals is what keeps Kaliko energized and excited about her job. Other things that excite her? Good food, traveling, spending time with family and friends and celebrating her multi-cultural heritage.

Why Finance?

I love to help folks create a plan, stay on track, and be witness to them achieving the goals they set out to accomplish. Good money management and planning are essential to a successful strategy.

Money-management lessons:

I had a part-time job during college and am proud of the fact that I paid for 100% of my education, finishing with no debt. It’s important to me to take personal responsibility for my own financial future.

How I stay busy:

Spending time with my two kids and husband. I also serve as the Public Image Chair for the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club and will be the President-Elect and Public Image Chair for 2021-2022. Working with the Houston community as a member of the Junior League also allows me an opportunity to give back to others.

Words to live by:

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi.

Inspired by:

My husband; his mind works in ways mine will never. (Kaliko’s husband is Dr. Omid Veiseh, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. He is also a co-founder of Sigilon Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company that discovers and develops immune-privileged living therapeutic implants for the treatment of chronic diseases.)

Ideal weekend:

Enjoying pool time with our kids, family, and friends!

What matters to me:

My family and friends, happiness, balance (oh and good food!)
