Employee Spotlight: Kaliko Veiseh

A staple of Soundmark, advisor Kaliko Veiseh has been here from the beginning – eighteen years to be exact. As a student of Finance at the University of Washington, she met Principal Bill Schultheis and discovered Soundmark was the perfect home.

Some describe Kaliko as the “glue” that brings others together. She has been using this “glue” for years, building long-term relationships with many of our clients. “Financial planning is very intimate; it is almost necessary for clients to reveal everything about themselves to allow for the most appropriate planning for them. Trust and integrity are very important to the way I approach my client interactions.”

A self-described foodie, Kaliko loves to travel and experience other regions’ flavors. Her multi-cultural heritage has provided a unique lens for her to appreciate the world.

WHY FINANCE? I love to help folks create a plan, stay on track, and be witness to them achieving the goals they set out to accomplish. Good money management and planning are essential to a successful strategy.

MONEY MANAGEMENT LESSONS: I had a part-time job during college and am proud of the fact that I paid for 100% of my education, finishing with no debt. It’s important to me to take personal responsibility for my own financial future.

HOW I STAY BUSY: Spending time with my two kids and husband. I also serve as the Public Image Chair for the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club and will be the President-Elect and Public Image Chair for 2021-2022. Working with the Houston community as a member of the Junior League also allows me an opportunity to give back to others.

WORDS TO LIVE BY: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi.

INSPIRED BY: My husband; his mind works in ways mine will never. (Kaliko’s husband is Dr. Omid Veiseh, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. He is also a co-founder of Sigilon Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company that discovers and develops immune-privileged living therapeutic implants for the treatment of chronic diseases.)

IDEAL WEEKEND: Enjoying pool time with our kids, family, and friends!

WHAT MATTERS TO ME: My family and friends, happiness, balance (oh and good food!)
